Monely or Mobills: Bank Connection, File Import and Price Compared
In this article

Monely and Mobills solve the same problem by different routes, and the choice usually turns on a single question: where does the entry come from? The Mobills listing on the Brazilian App Store, checked on 11 August 2026, describes automatic integrations with major banks. Monely has no bank connection and no Open Finance, by product decision: entries arrive by WhatsApp (text, audio or image), by typing in the app, or by importing a file.

Every number in this comparison carries a source and a date. Everything stated here about Mobills was checked on 11 August 2026 on the official pricing page (mobills.com.br/pricing), on the Brazilian App Store listing, and in the help centre. Where we found no official source, the article says we did not verify it, instead of printing a yes or a no with nothing behind it.

Bank Connection

This is the item that decides most choices between the two apps.

Mobills describes an automatic connection in its Brazilian App Store listing, checked on 11 Aug 2026: automatic integrations with major banks, with accounts and credit cards connected automatically.

Monely does not do this, and it is not a feature stuck in a queue: it is a product decision. There is no bank connection and no Open Finance. Transactions arrive in four ways: a WhatsApp message, a receipt photo, typing in the app, or a file import.

The reason is about method, not engineering. An app that only pulls data from the bank mirrors what the bank already shows: it repeats the same statement, on a prettier screen. Reading a list you had no part in making does not change behaviour. The act of recording is what turns data into awareness.

What makes people give up is not the act itself, it is the bureaucracy of many taps before an entry is finally saved. So Monely keeps the act and cuts the bureaucracy: one sentence on WhatsApp, a five-second voice note, or a photo of the receipt, and the entry is done.

If you want the statement to arrive on its own, Mobills is the more direct answer. If you would rather not hand bank credentials to any app, Monely is a route that works without that connection.

In Monely, WhatsApp logging accepts text, audio and images. The conversation is not end-to-end encrypted: the Monely Privacy Policy describes encryption in transit and at rest, which is a different thing.

As for Mobills, WhatsApp logging exists and is official, on the PRO tier. The plan page, read on 11 August 2026, opens its list of included features with “Registro de transações pelo WhatsApp” and describes PRO as Premium plus an intelligent assistant on WhatsApp, available 24 hours a day. The help centre adds what the page leaves out: the assistant works with text and audio, not with images.

What is left, then, is not whether the feature exists. It is what fits in the message, and on which tier: in Monely the receipt photo arrives through the same channel, inside the paid plan; in Mobills the assistant sits one step above Premium and does not read images.

Accounts and Organization

FeatureMonelyMobills

Shared groups with income-based splittingYesNot verified

Monely has shared groups where each person’s contribution is calculated in proportion to their own income. In the official Mobills sources we checked on 11 Aug 2026 we found no equivalent description, which is not the same as saying it does not exist.

Goals and Category Tracking

In Monely, goals are savings and investment goals. There is no per-category cap and no alert when spending approaches a limit, and that too is a product decision: category envelopes take work to maintain, and almost nobody keeps the discipline going for many months in a row. The same need is met by a different route.

The starting point is your income targets: you set what share of the month’s income goes to investment, to shared expenses and to personal spending. Personal spending then splits into Needed and Wanted, with a target share for each side, and that classification comes from the subcategory: you set it once and every entry inherits it, so there is no decision to make at each entry, which is exactly where per-category caps tend to die. Investment goals complete the set, each with a target amount, a linked account and a progress bar.

The question the method asks is not how much is left in the category envelope, but this: do I need it, or do I merely want it?

Category tracking still exists, in the distribution chart and in the comparison between periods, but as a reading of what happened rather than an alarm on a limit.

If a category cap with an overspending alert is decisive for you, confirm that item on the official Mobills page before subscribing. We could not verify that feature in an official Mobills source on 11 Aug 2026, and we would rather say so than guess.

Monely exports data as CSV. There is no PDF export. If your accountant asks for PDF, that is a point against Monely.

Monely has native apps for Android and iOS, and runs on a computer through the browser at web.monely.app. There is no native Windows, macOS or Linux app. Browser access belongs to the PRO and Family plans, and to the free plan for as long as the welcome bonus lasts.

Monely also does not work offline: with no internet, the app neither records nor answers.

Languages and Currencies

AspectMonelyMobills
Languages86, per the Brazilian App Store listing (11 Aug 2026)
Currencies155, plus BitcoinOne at a time, per the help centre (11 Aug 2026)

Monely is available in 8 languages (Portuguese, English, Spanish, French, German, Indonesian, Turkish and Hindi) and supports 155 currencies plus Bitcoin. For Mobills, the pricing page and the App Store listing we read on 11 Aug 2026 state neither a language count nor a currency count, so we print no number in that column.

Privacy and Data

Monely does not connect to banks, so it never asks for or stores bank credentials: data arrives by message, photo, typing, or a file you send yourself. The Privacy Policy describes encryption in transit and at rest. WhatsApp conversations are not end-to-end encrypted, and no Monely plan shows advertising.

The Monely free plan is permanent and carries no advertising: after the welcome bonus runs out, it allows 50 records per month. If your routine goes past that, PRO is the way. Mobills also has a free plan, and it shows advertising. The stores are the ones saying so: the Brazilian Google Play listing, checked on 11 Aug 2026, carries the labels “Contém anúncios” and “Compras no app” right under the app name, and the App Store listing repeats “Contém Publicidade” in its privacy section. The Mobills pricing page does not describe that plan, but both stores do, and that is where the row comes from.

The official Mobills pricing page shows a single value, R$ 99.90 per year, on the check made on 11 August 2026. On the annual plan, then, Mobills comes out R$ 49.10 cheaper than Monely PRO in Brazil.

The Brazilian App Store listing for Mobills shows eight in-app purchase values, from R$ 14.90 to R$ 199.90, without saying which period each one covers. That is why we do not compare monthly prices: the only period confirmed in an official source is the annual one. Figures such as R$ 199.90 per year circulate on coupon sites and third-party comparisons; the official page, on the date we read it, says otherwise. We do not convert these amounts into dollars or euros, because the exchange rate moves and a converted price ages badly.

When to Choose Mobills

Five situations where Mobills serves you better, and none of them is a matter of taste.

You want statements to arrive on their own. The Mobills listing on the Brazilian App Store, checked on 11 Aug 2026, describes automatic integrations with major banks and connecting accounts and credit cards automatically. Monely does not have this and will not get it, because it is a product decision. If you do not want to export a file from your bank or log entries by message, Monely will cost you work every month.

You want to pay less on the annual plan. R$ 99.90 per year on the official Mobills page, checked on 11 Aug 2026, against R$ 149 per year for Monely PRO in Brazil. That is a R$ 49.10 gap in Mobills’ favour.

You work on a Mac. The Brazilian App Store listing for Mobills shows compatibility with macOS 12 or later on a Mac with an M1 chip, plus visionOS, on the 11 Aug 2026 check. On a computer, Monely exists only in the browser: there is no native app for macOS, Windows or Linux.

You need to log entries with no internet. Monely requires a connection: with no network, the app neither records nor answers. If you log expenses on the underground, while travelling, or anywhere with poor signal, that weighs. On Mobills we found no official statement about offline use on 11 Aug 2026, so check the source before subscribing.

Your accountant asks for PDF reports. Monely exports data as CSV, and nothing beyond that. If the file has to arrive formatted as a PDF, that is a point against Monely; whether Mobills delivers the format, we could not confirm in an official source on the 11 Aug 2026 check.

Add to that the category cap with an overspending alert, which Monely does not have and answers by another route, the income targets described above. If the traditional envelope is what you want, confirm on an official Mobills source whether it delivers, because that we could not verify.

When to Choose Monely

You want to send the receipt photo through the conversation. Monely’s WhatsApp logging accepts text, audio and images, inside the paid plan, with no extra tier. Mobills logs over WhatsApp too, but on the PRO tier, one step above Premium, and the help centre states that the assistant works with text and audio. The photo is what separates the two.

You are coming from another app. There are 5 direct importers that recognise files exported from Wallet, Minhas Financas, Money Manager, Bluecoins and Splital. Beyond those, Monely reads 6 file formats: CSV, TSV, XLS and XLSX for spreadsheets; OFX and QFX for bank statements. PDF and TXT are not accepted.

You do not want to hand over bank credentials. With no bank connection, there is no bank login stored anywhere. If you see that as a risk, the absence is the argument.

You deal with more than one currency. There are 155 currencies plus Bitcoin, and the interface is available in 8 languages.

You split household bills. In shared groups, each person’s contribution is calculated in proportion to their income.

Conclusion

One question separates the two: do you want bank statements to arrive on their own?

Frequently asked questions

Monely or Mobills: which should I choose?

The choice comes down to one thing: automatic bank connection. The Mobills listing on the Brazilian App Store, checked on 11 Aug 2026, describes automatic integrations with major banks. Monely has no bank connection and no Open Finance, by product decision: entries arrive by WhatsApp (text, audio or image), by typing in the app, or by importing a file. If you want statements to arrive on their own, Mobills serves you better.

Does Mobills connect to banks automatically?

Yes, according to the app listing on the Brazilian App Store, checked on 11 Aug 2026, which mentions automatic integrations with major banks and connecting accounts and credit cards automatically. Monely does not offer this, by product decision.

Does Monely import statements and spreadsheets?

Yes, in 6 formats: CSV, TSV, XLS and XLSX for spreadsheets; OFX and QFX for bank statements. There are also 5 direct importers that recognise files exported from other apps: Wallet, Minhas Financas, Money Manager, Bluecoins and Splital. What Monely does not do is automatic bank sync: you are the one who sends the file.

Which app is cheaper?

On the annual plan in the Brazilian market, Mobills. The official Mobills pricing page, checked on 11 Aug 2026, shows a single value: R$ 99.90 per year. Monely PRO costs R$ 149 per year in Brazil, a gap of R$ 49.10. We do not compare monthly prices because the App Store listing shows eight in-app purchase values without stating the period for any of them.

Which app works on a computer?

Monely runs on a computer through the browser at web.monely.app, with nothing to install, a feature of the PRO and Family plans and of the free plan for as long as the welcome bonus lasts. The official Mobills page lists iOS, Android and web, and the Brazilian App Store listing also shows macOS 12 or later on a Mac with an M1 chip, plus visionOS (checked 11 Aug 2026).

Does Mobills log expenses over WhatsApp?

Yes, on the PRO tier. The official Mobills PRO page, checked on 11 Aug 2026, opens its list of included features with 'Registro de transações pelo WhatsApp' and describes the tier as Premium plus an intelligent assistant on WhatsApp, available 24 hours a day. The help centre adds that the assistant works with text and audio, not with images. In Monely, WhatsApp logging accepts text, audio and images, and comes with the paid plan at no extra tier. The conversation is not end-to-end encrypted: the Monely Privacy Policy describes encryption in transit and at rest.

Does Monely work offline?

No. Monely needs an internet connection both to record and to look things up.

How does Monely control spending without category budget caps?

Through income goals: you set what share of the month's income goes to investing, to shared expenses and to personal spending. Personal spending then splits between Necessary and Desirable, and that classification comes from the subcategory, set once and inherited by every entry, so there is no decision to make at each transaction. On top of that sit investment goals, with a target amount, a linked account and a progress bar. The question the method asks is not how much is left in the envelope, but this: do I need it, or do I only want it?
