Monely vs Wallet: Which Finance App to Choose?

Monely vs Wallet: Which Finance App to Choose?
In this article

Monely and Wallet by BudgetBakers solve the same problem from opposite directions. Wallet pulls transactions straight from your bank and works with spending caps per category. Monely has no bank connection at all, by product decision, and leans on logging by WhatsApp message, with text, audio, or an image.

Every competitor figure in this comparison was checked on 11 August 2026 against official sources: the BudgetBakers site, the Wallet features page, and the app’s App Store listing. Where the official source states no number, no number appears here.

What Wallet does that Monely does not: the BudgetBakers features page states that the app connects with over 15,000 banks worldwide and syncs transactions automatically. The Brazilian App Store description, read the same day, says 4,000 participating banks. Both numbers come from the company itself and they do not agree, so treat the order of magnitude as declared, not audited. Neither source lists which banks are covered in any given country, and we did not confirm that. Monely has no bank connection and no open banking, and this is not a feature running late: it is a product decision.

What Monely does that Wallet does not advertise: logging by WhatsApp with text, audio, and images. You send the message, the voice note, or the photo of the receipt, and the entry lands. On 11 August 2026 we found no mention of WhatsApp on any official BudgetBakers page or on the App Store listing. One honest caveat: that flow runs through WhatsApp and is not end-to-end encrypted. Monely’s Privacy Policy describes encryption in transit and at rest.

Accounts, Net Worth, and Investments

Shared accountsGroups that split in proportion to incomeNo mention of proportional calculation in the sources we checked
Stock trackingNoYes

Where Wallet has the edge: the Wallet App Store description advertises stock tracking, with your portfolio followed inside the app itself. Monely does not do this. Monely’s goals cover saving and investing, but the app does not follow asset prices.

Where Monely has the edge: shared groups calculate each person’s contribution from each person’s income. Instead of splitting the rent down the middle, whoever earns more covers a proportionally larger share.

Goals, Budgets, and Alerts

FeatureMonelyWallet
Saving and investing goalsYesNot verified
Spending cap per categoryNoYes
Alert when approaching the limitNoYes
Scheduled payments with remindersYesYes

This is the point where Wallet solves something Monely does not. The BudgetBakers features page, checked on 11 August 2026, says you set spending limits by category and get alerts when you are approaching your limits. Monely has no category cap and no limit alert. What Monely has is the category distribution chart and the period comparison: you see where the money went and how this month compares with the last one, but the app will not tell you that you blew past your grocery cap, because there is no cap to blow past.

Reports and Export

FeatureMonelyWallet
Pie and bar chartsYesYes
Net worth evolutionYesYes
Period comparisonYesYes

PDF exportNoNot verified
Stock reportNoYes

Monely exports to CSV and only to CSV: there is no PDF export. If you need a formatted statement to hand to an accountant or attach to a filing, the CSV gives you the spreadsheet, not the finished document. On Wallet’s export side, the official pages we read on 11 August 2026 list no formats, so we make no claim here. The BudgetBakers help center does document importing CSV, XLS, and OFX.

Installable on a MacNoYes, per the App Store listing: macOS 14 or later with M1 chip

Native Windows or Linux appNoNot verified
Works offlineNoNot verified

This is not a tie. Monely is an Android and iOS app with browser access at web.monely.app, included in the PRO and Family plans and in the free plan for as long as the welcome bonus lasts. There is no native Monely app for Windows, macOS, or Linux, and Monely does not work offline: with no connection, you cannot log. The Wallet App Store listing, checked on 11 August 2026, shows compatibility with iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS 14 with an M1 chip, and visionOS 1.0. If you have an Apple Silicon Mac, you install Wallet as an app; with Monely, you use the browser.

Languages and Currencies

AspectMonelyWallet
Languages8: English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, German, Indonesian, Turkish, Hindi48 on the App Store listing, 50 on the BudgetBakers site
Currencies155 plus BitcoinNo figure published in the official sources we checked

On languages the advantage is Wallet’s, by a wide margin: the App Store listing shows Portuguese plus 47 more languages, and the BudgetBakers home page advertises 50. Monely has 8. On currencies, Monely publishes a hard number, 155 plus Bitcoin; the official Wallet pages we read mention multi-currency support without saying how many, so there is no like-for-like comparison to make.

Ads and Billing Model

Monely shows no ads on any plan, including the free one. On Wallet, we found no official BudgetBakers statement about advertising on the free plan among the pages checked on 11 August 2026, so this comparison does not claim that Wallet does or does not show ads. The app is free to download and carries in-app purchases, as the store listing shows.

Pricing, With Source and Date

Competitor pricing ages fast, so here is what can be verified and how.

BudgetBakers keeps no public pricing page: budgetbakers.com/pricing/ returned 404 on 11 August 2026. The only official figures we found are the in-app purchases on the Brazilian App Store listing, on the same date. They are in Brazilian reais, and store prices vary by country:

Item listed in the storePrice
PremiumR$ 31.90
PremiumR$ 99.90
PremiumR$ 159.90
3-Year PremiumR$ 299.90
Lifetime PremiumR$ 279.90

The store does not label the billing period of the three items called simply Premium. That is why there is no monthly-against-monthly row here: it would mean comparing a labeled number with an unlabeled one.

On the Monely side, the PRO plan costs about $2.99 per month or about $29.99 per year. The free plan allows 50 entries per month, with no ads, and the WhatsApp assistant available for as long as the welcome bonus lasts.

When to Choose Wallet

There are cases where the honest answer is the other app. These are real and verifiable:

  1. You want transactions to arrive on their own. Wallet connects to your bank and syncs: the BudgetBakers features page claims more than 15,000 banks and the App Store description says 4,000 participating banks, both read on 11 August 2026, both figures from the company itself, and they do not agree. Monely has no bank connection and no open banking, and it will not get one, because that is a product decision. If typing or photographing a receipt every day is a cost you do not want to pay, Wallet is the right app. Caveat: neither the site nor the store confirms which banks are covered in your country, so test with your own bank before subscribing.
  2. You want a category cap that warns you. The BudgetBakers features page describes a spending limit per category with an alert as you approach it. Monely has none of that. If your method is to set $400 for groceries and be warned as you get close, Monely will not warn you.
  3. You want the app installed on your Mac. The App Store listing shows Wallet as compatible with macOS 14 or later on Macs with an M1 chip, plus Apple Vision. Monely has no native desktop app on any system; on a computer, it is the browser only.
  4. You need the app in a language Monely does not have. That is 8 languages in Monely against the 48 listed on Wallet’s App Store listing.
  5. You track stocks alongside your spending. Wallet advertises stock tracking; Monely has no such feature.

Add to that two Monely limitations that apply to any comparison: Monely does not work offline, and it exports to CSV only, never to PDF.

When to Choose Monely

  1. You want to log by message. WhatsApp with text, audio, and images, and that is Monely’s main path for logging, not an extra. On 11 August 2026 we found no mention of WhatsApp in any official Wallet source.
  2. You are leaving another app and do not want to lose history. Monely has 5 direct importers, and one of them is Wallet itself. The other four are Minhas Financas, Money Manager, Bluecoins, and Splital. The importer accepts 6 formats: .csv, .tsv, .xls, .xlsx, .ofx, and .qfx. PDF is not accepted.
  3. You split bills on unequal incomes. Monely’s shared groups calculate each person’s contribution from each person’s income instead of halving everything.
  4. You want no ads on any plan. Monely shows no ads, not even on the free plan.
  5. You deal in many currencies. 155 currencies plus Bitcoin, with the number published.

Migrating From Wallet to Monely

This is the most concrete argument in this comparison: Wallet is one of the five apps Monely imports directly. The five direct importers are Wallet, Minhas Financas, Money Manager, Bluecoins, and Splital.

  1. In Wallet, export your data from the app’s settings menu
  2. Get Monely on Android or iOS, or open web.monely.app
  3. In Monely, go to Settings, Import data, and choose Wallet
  4. Select the file. The importer accepts .csv, .tsv, .xls, .xlsx, .ofx, and .qfx; PDF is not accepted

Transactions, accounts, and categories land in Monely’s structure without manual typing.

Conclusion

The two apps solve different things.

Wallet delivers what Monely does not: a bank connection, a spending cap per category with an alert, stock tracking, installation on a Mac, and 48 languages per its App Store listing. If any one of those five is non-negotiable for you, the decision is already made.

Monely delivers logging by WhatsApp with text, audio, and images, splitting in proportion to income in shared groups, 155 currencies plus Bitcoin, 5 direct importers across 6 file formats, and no ads on any plan. In exchange, it has no bank connection, no category cap, no offline mode, no PDF export, and no desktop app.

Frequently asked questions

Monely or Wallet, which should I choose?

It comes down to two questions. If you want transactions pulled in automatically from your bank and you want a spending cap per category with an alert, Wallet does both and Monely does neither. If you want to log by WhatsApp message, with text, audio, or an image, and to import another app's backup directly, Monely does that and Wallet does not advertise it on any official page we checked on 11 August 2026.

Can I migrate from Wallet to Monely?

Yes. Wallet is one of the five apps with a direct importer in Monely, alongside Minhas Financas, Money Manager, Bluecoins, and Splital. The importer accepts six file formats: spreadsheets in .csv, .tsv, .xls, and .xlsx, and bank statements in .ofx and .qfx.

Does Wallet have WhatsApp integration?

We found no mention of WhatsApp on BudgetBakers official pages or on the App Store listing, both checked on 11 August 2026. In Monely, WhatsApp logging accepts text, audio, and images. That flow is not end-to-end encrypted: Monely's Privacy Policy describes encryption in transit and at rest.

Does Monely have automatic bank sync?

No, Monely has no bank connection and no open banking, and that is a product decision: an app that only pulls from your bank mirrors what the bank already shows you, and looking at a ready-made list does not change what you do with your money. The act of logging is what turns data into awareness, and WhatsApp keeps that act while cutting the friction of many taps: you send text, audio, or a photo of the receipt, and you can still enter by hand or import a file. Wallet does sync: the BudgetBakers site advertises more than 15,000 bank connections worldwide, while the Brazilian App Store description says 4,000 participating banks, both checked on 11 August 2026. Neither source confirms which banks are covered in any specific country.

Which app has spending caps per category?

Wallet. The BudgetBakers features page, checked on 11 August 2026, states that you set spending limits by category and get alerts when you are approaching your limits. Monely meets the same need another way: income goals, where you set how much of the month goes to investing, to shared expenses, and to personal spending; the split between Necessary and Desirable, which comes from the subcategory, set once and inherited by every entry, with no decision to make at each transaction; and investment goals with a target amount and a progress bar. Category tracking stays in the distribution chart and the period comparison.

Which app is better for couples?

Monely offers shared groups that split expenses in proportion to each person's income. The official Wallet pages we checked on 11 August 2026 make no mention of income-proportional splitting.

Which app supports more languages?

Wallet. Its App Store listing shows Portuguese plus 47 more languages, that is 48, and the BudgetBakers site advertises 50, both checked on 11 August 2026. Monely has 8: English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, German, Indonesian, Turkish, and Hindi.

Which app works on a computer?

Both work in the browser, with one difference. Monely has native Android and iOS apps plus browser access at web.monely.app, included in the PRO and Family plans and in the free plan for as long as the welcome bonus lasts. Wallet has Android, iOS, and browser access, and its App Store listing checked on 11 August 2026 also shows compatibility with Mac (macOS 14 or later, M1 chip) and Apple Vision.

How much does Wallet cost?

BudgetBakers keeps no public pricing page: budgetbakers.com/pricing/ returned 404 on 11 August 2026. The only official figures we found are the in-app purchases on the Brazilian App Store listing, on the same date: Premium R$ 31.90, Premium R$ 99.90, Premium R$ 159.90, 3-Year Premium R$ 299.90, and Lifetime Premium R$ 279.90. The store does not label the billing period of the three items called simply Premium, and prices vary by country.

Which app tracks investments?

Wallet. Its Brazilian App Store description, checked on 11 August 2026, advertises stock tracking, with your portfolio followed inside the app. Monely does not track a portfolio at market prices: there is an Investment account type, investment goals with a target amount, and the share of income you earmark for investing, but the app does not read brokerage positions or fetch asset prices.
